Up Avon Mountain from the west side is quite a difficult climb, but the road is just too busy to rate it very high. Only maniacs attempt this hill from the East! For most of the way up there is a generous shoulder which is nice. It is a great climb to do a 5min power test on. The grade is just consistently brutal the entire way up. You can turn off onto Deercliff Rd at the summit for a nice ridge road with hella mansions.
